The interaction between lymphocytes and hepatocytes or Kupffer cells was investigated in the liver biopsy specimens in marmoset virus hepatitis A. In electron microscopy, the lymphocytes attached to hepatocytes and Kupffer cells containing hepatitis A viruses in a broad or point fashion with contact gap. Immuno-ellectron microscopy comfirmed the presence of hepatitis A virus antigen in the cytoplasm but not on the surface of the latter two cells. Ocasionally, the lymphocytes attached directaly to the vesicles containing virus particles in the degenerative cell. These findings strongly suggested that the lymphocytes played on important role the hepatocellular injury and also that Kupffer cells could be a taget cell of sensitived lymphocytes in type A hepatitis.
