The Autonomic Nerve Resurved Curative Resection for the Patient with Lower Rectal Cancer.

One hundred and twelve patients have been received the autonomic nerve rese ved curative resection for rectal cancer since 1986 in our department. Among them 60 were with lower rectal cancer. About two thirds were in Dukes C stage. Cumulative 5 years survival rate was 83%. These patients were randomely devided in three groups:1. Unilateral autonomic nerve reservation. 2. Nerve reservation and radiation post operatively (50 Gy) to reserved side. 3. Reservation radiation + 5 FU venous injection 250ng/60 dy just before radiation. Though the follow period is still 37 months in average, no significant deference is observed yet among these three groups. The urinary function of the patients was successful in all patients but sexual function in male especially for ejaculation was remained in only one thirds of those who received unilateral reservation.
