The manometric studies and questionnairs of defecational function were performed 123 times in 80 cases to evaluate the defecational function of the patients underwent the sphincter preserving operation for rectal cancer. Each value was treated satistically by quantification theory type III for the analysis of the relationship between these items and clinical evaluations.<BR>The items which had strongly related to clinical evaluation were detected.<BR>Ano-rectal function is supported by the three functions. Function of anal sphinctor was related to postoprative period, anastomosis method, operation method and urinary or sexual dysfunction. Function of reservoir was related to operation method and purugative medication. Sense for defecation was related to frequency of defecation, incontinence of feces and residual sense of stool.<BR>The defecational function scour which were computed by the analysis can clearly discriminate the clinical evaluations.
