III. Immunologic Studies in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease

The in vitro response to mitogen. and antigen of purified blood lymphocytes from patients with ulcerative colitis, intestinal tuberculosis, Crohn's disease and control subjects has been determined.<BR>In 15 patients with ulcerative colitis, poor lymphocyte response to phytohemoagglutinin was observed compare with lymphocyte response in 15 healthy control. In addition, in many cases with ulcerative colitis population of circulating T-cell showed low in number.<BR>In active stage of ulcerative colitis various lymphocyte response was observed. On the other hand, in remission decreased lymphocyte reactivity was revealed. The lymphocyte transformation test and MIF activity to crude colon antigen and enterobacterial common antigen (Kunin) showed positive response in majority of patients with ulcerative colitis.<BR>In 4 patients with Crohn's disease poor lymphocyte response to PHA was observed compare with lymphocyte response in patients with ulcerative colitis. In 3 cases with intestinal tuberculosis was revealed stronger reactivity to mitogen.
