On-line Liquid Chromatography/Double Focussing Mass Spectrometry with a Newly Improved Vacuum Nebulizing Interface

An improved interface was developed for the combination of high performance liquid chromatography and double focussing mass spectrometry. A fused sillica capillary tube was drawn in a small coal gas flame to form a nozzle tip of the nebulizing interface from which a portion of the liquid chromatographic effluent spouted. Fundamental operational conditions for stable and continuous introduction of the effluent into the ion source were studied. This system was applied to the analysis of thermally labile compounds with high molecular weight, polyethylene glycol-600, polystyrene-1000 and triglycerides. The triglyceride components in coconut oil were also analyzed.
