HAND-MADE LOW-COST EQUIPMENT IN CHEMICAL EDUCATION

After the second world war, Ikeo started to think of low-cost tools in science education. It happened soon after the cease fire and we really didn't own even the simplest devices. One of the few things we had were electric light bulbs. Using these bulbs-after they had done their job-Ikeo cut off their bases and manufactured flasks or measuring cups of them. This experience was most impressive to Ikeo. This idea of low-cost equipment brought us to make an institute. Ikeo founded the "Science Education Research Center" in 1975, for which Ikeo have organized in-service teacher training course having many workshops. Many members including our university stuff and graduated-students joined the course then. In one of the workshops, we have continued to develop low-cost hand-made equipment in chemical education for more than 15 years. In this paper, we introduce some of them.
