Titanium dioxide photocatalyst has been receiving increasing attention. One reason is that it doesn't discharge toxic substance after the decomposition of soiled organic compounds. However, the estimation method in use seems to be the makers' own methods for their own products, and although standardization has been examined, it seems to be not yet sufficient. Recently, a large number of visible-light photocatalyst has been used in various ways, while studies for influence of light source (black light, fluorescent light) are not found. This paper has proposed simple performance tests of various titanium dioxide photocatalyst (TiO2) material with various light sources.Simple performance tests were done by methylene blue aqueous solution method and methylene blue dyed cellulose film method, in aqueous TiO2 dispersion. The degree of decomposition was determined by the concentration of methylene blue before and after irradiaction with a spectrophotometer. As a result, that was effected in the following order, black light>fluorescent light of warm color>fluorescent light of cool color, and that of smaller particle size was more effective in same TiO2 type. The degree of decomposition of visible rays TiO2 type was weaker than that of UV type TiO2, at radiation of flourescent light. This cellulose film method seems to be a more effective means for valuation of material condition of titanium dioxide photocatalyst, by the improvement of more homogeneous film.
