The experimental condition of solid cotton cloths by oily pigment were investigated using solvent of which environmental responsibility has been reduced, and the suitability of detergent evaluation were investigated using an incubator and a terg-o-tometer using the above-mentioned soiled cloths. The detergent efficiency was determined by the K/S value to reflectance of soiled cotton cloths before and after detergency. The main results obtained are summarized as follows: The degree of solubility of oily pigment (sudan I, II, III) decreased in the order I>II.>III, in n-propyl alcohol and ethyl alcohol. The solubilization of sudan I was remarkably different in various surfactant aqueous solutions (AOS, AE, LAS, SDS). The solubility of n-propyl alcohol was larger than that of ethyl alcohol, but ethyl alcohol was used as soiling solvent from the standpoint of evaporation speed. The most suitable experimental condition of soiled cotton cloths were sudan I 0.05 wt% in ethyl alcohol, liquor ratio 1:50, agitation of 30 min, at 20℃. Sudan I soiled cotton cloths were confirmed to be effective for fair detergent evaluation in various conditions (kind of surfactant, concentration of surfactant, temperature, and mechanical effect).
