The aim of this study was to synthesize sol-gel derived nanoparticles bioactive glass (NBG) and to assess the effect of their addition on the mechanical properties of commercially available resin modified glass ionomer cement (GIC). GIC containing 3% and 5% (w/w) NBG improved the flexural strength compared to the unmodified GIC. GIC containing 3% (w/w) NBG is a promising restorative material with improved mechanical properties.
