The study aimed to evaluate the effects of CPoint, a polymeric endodontic point system that expands on water sorption, on the viability and osteogenic differentiation potential of murine odontoblast-like cells (MDPC-23). Cells were plated at the recommended densities, and exposed to either CPoint, gutta-percha or Teflon discs. Cell viability was evaluated using MTT assay, flow cytometry, and confocal microscopy. Osteogenic potential was evaluated using qRT-PCR, Alkaline phosphate assay, alizarin red staining, and transmission electron microscopy. Results suggest that the biocompatibility of CPoint is comparable to gutta-percha with minimal adverse effects on osteogenesis after elution of potentially toxic components.
