Recently, there are remarkable movements in the field of mobile satellite communications. Satellite mobile phone/terminal are utilized in Tohoku Pacific Ocean Earthquake. Afterwards, new satellite mobile phone services are provided by domestic mobile communications carriers. On domestic radio policy, the information and communications council has started a discussion considering mobile satellite communications systems. In overseas, new satellite and terrestrial integrated systems have been planned in which terrestrial system is operated ancillary to satellite system in the same frequency band. In this paper, we make an attempt to survey a trend of mobile satellite communications. Trend in domestic/overseas systems is outlined and technology trend is analyzed.
