Japan was under occupation by the Allied Powers for about 7 years after August 15, 1945. The occupation policies on science and technology, especially on nuclear research, gave strong influence to the resumption of Japanese scientific researches after the War. We analyze the policies and the influence in connection with the destruction of cyclotrons in November 1945, based upon the documents of the General Head Quarters of the Allied Powers and others declassified by the US Government. The contents are (1) The occupation policies on science and technology and the regulation on nuclear research, (2) The destruction of cyclotrons by the occupation powers and (3) The later development. "An Account of the destruction of the Cyclotron in the Nishina Laboratory, Institute of Physical and Chemical Research, Tokyo" written by Yoshio Nishina in December 1945 is included in the appendix.
