The Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission is composed of a Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM)-like non-sun-synchronous orbit satellite (GPM Core Observatory) and constellation of satellites carrying microwave radiometer instruments. The GPM Core Observatory carries the Dual-frequency Precipitation Radar (DPR) by the JAXA and the NICT, and microwave radiometer by the NASA. DPR Level-1 algorithm, which provides DPR Level-1 product including received power, is developed by the JAXA. DPR Level 2 algorithm is developed by the DPR Algorithm Team led by Japan, which is under the NASA-JAXA Joint Algorithm Team. The Level-2 products will provide estimated precipitation rate, radar reflectivity factor, and precipitation information. This paper presents current status of Japan's activity for GPM/DPR algorithm development.
