Lithospermum erythrorhizon plants were grown in Biotron Growth Cabinets at three different night temperatures (day 28℃; night 25, 20, 15℃) to examine the temperature effects on the plant growth and the naphthoquinone pigment (shikonin derivatives) content in the root. Night temperatures affected the plant growth but not the pigment content. At a higher night temperature (25℃), there was an increase in the dry root weight and also in the pigment yield per plant.
