Privatization of the pension scheme is now being proposed in the Indian parliament. The plan is to devote large section of the pension fund to the stock market to prop up some favourite companies. The scheme was basically proposed by the World Bank after it was implemented in Chile at the time of the economic reform plan of late 1970s. The experience of Chile shows very clearly that India is waiting for social and economic disaster to take place soon as a result of these policies.
