The purpose of this article is to construct clinical social work theory using a social constructionist perspective to help clients with psychosomatic disease. First, the research considered the possibility of applying communication theory of social constructionist orientation, the Coordinated Management of Meaning(CMM, Cronen & Pearce, 1985) to a clinical social activity. A framework of the new practice theory, including sophisticated assessment tools and intervention techniques, was developed from the CMM and solution focused brief therapy. In addition, this study offered detailed descriptions of the techniques for achieving adaptation and improvement of clients behaviors. Finally, the clinical effectiveness will be clarified by analyzing the intervention process using the new practice theory with patients with phobic avoidance.
