Child and maternal welfare and human care have become markedly correlated with scientification. At present, much emphasis tends to be placed on scientific evidence in the fields of counseling and psychotherapy (Prochaska & Norcross, 2010). In the field of social welfare, the management efficiency tends to be considered scientifically, as represented by the philosophy of the report on the Reform of the Basic Structure of Social Welfare (Central Social Welfare Council, 1998). Based on the present status of such intricately scientified and specialized human care research, this study pays attention to the underlying principle. The purpose of this study was to introspectively deepen the consideration of the principle of helping people, by taking the opportunity of reflecting on the source of assistance for child and maternal welfare. In particular, the topology of psyche is analyzed while determining the correlation between the foundation of the Okayama Orphanage, which contributed to the origin of the chari ty work in Japan, and to the aspect of commitment to scientification after the dissolution of the orphanage. Voluntarism, interdisciplinarity (Frodeman et al., 2010), plurality (James, 1909; Russell, 1921), critique (Yamakawa, 1933), communal communication (Takenaka, 1979; Visser't Hooft, 1960; Dewey, 1934), and learning community correlated with liberal arts education have been found to be the basic ethos.
