Due to historical changes such as an aging population with a low birth rate and changes in the family structure, increasing attention is being paid to childcare and nursing related to social welfare issues. In this situation, in which the numbers of working women has increased with fundamental and functional changes in the family and motherhood, "occupational segregation by gender" is being reconsidered. The concept of "motherhood" which includes the idea that mothers should raise their children has changed, and child-raising has become remarkably "socialized" and "specialized". In Japan, motherhood has also changed remarkably from an idea-historical perspective. Now, we have nursery staffs, care workers, social workers and clinical psychologists, and training of specialists in childcare and child welfare, as well as social work education, have spread to higher education. In this study, we discuss idea-historical changes in social welfare and child-raising among working women, focusing on motherhood that is related to childcare. Our goal was to obtain ideological suggestions for related studies that are still in their infancy.
