Excised root cultures of Swertia pseudochinensis were obtained from root tips of the seedlings. Successive cultures were maintained by subculturing 2 cm long root tips at 6-8 week intervals for two years; the cultures were incubated in shaking condition in dim light at 25 ± 1℃. Best growth was obtained when the root tips were cultured in half strength B5 basal medium containing 1 μg/l of NAA and 3% sucrose.
