Identification of Traditional Chinese Patent Medicines(中成薬)by Polariscope(3)Polariscopic Characteristics of Zhibao Sanbian Wan(至宝三鞭丸)

Zhibao Sanbian Wan (至宝三鞭丸) is a traditional Chinese patent medicine commonly used for tonicity in China and Japan. The medicine is in the form of a large pill composing of honey and 38 kinds of powder crude drugs. In the present study, microscopic examination of Zhibao Sanbian Wan was carried out. The result showed that under a polariscope, the key objects of 34 powder drugs can be identified easily and clearly. This paper reports some polariscopic characteristics of these constituents derived from plants, animals and mineral sources in the prescription for the first time.
