The theory of informational 'BA' (interactive field) proposed by Hiroyuki Itami focuses on and deals with issues in the interactive process of information creation by and among a group of individuals, which exist between management actions and performance. BA is defined as a sort of container for information interaction which emerges where the following four basic elements are shared by members in question: (i) agenda, (ii) interpretation code of information, (iii) carrier of information and (iv) aspiration for cooperation. According to tha theory, BA generates a process of information creation which activates "micro-macro loop" of information between local information held by each member and mutual understanding shared by all members. Another field theory proposed by Kurt Lewin dealt with the relationship, interaction and resultant tension system of psychological forces in the life space of individuals, which provided effective conceptual framework to approach various social problems. Lewin developed the concept of "field of psychological forces" of an individual as his cognitive structure of his life space which is presumed to determine his thinking and action. This article reviews the outlines, characteristics and key concepts of the two theories of field, and then explores the potential benefits from their integrative use in approaching issues regarding information creation by various organizations. A preliminary case study of this approach is presented regarding the activities of the Cross Functional Teams of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. The author believes that it is a typical case of effective use of BA in an organizational culture with a kind of field of psychological forces which drives its member to think and act for local needs or wonts rather than for the good of the whole organization.
