By concerns for high prices of conventional crude oils and global environmental issues, advanced production and refining technologies of petroleum are expected to make the best use of crude oils. One direction for the development of the technologies is establishing the very precise oil handling techniques in molecule-level. To control the reactions in refining processes very precisely, detailed kinetic modeling technique was demanded. Although, heavy oils are tremendously complex mixture of various organic compounds, the molecule-level detailed kinetic modeling techniques have been established based on the recent advancement of analytical and computational technologies. In this paper, the molecule-based kinetic modeling of two processes, hydrocracking of aromatic fractions and resides pyrolysis, were demonstrated. The former was an example of the straightforward molecule-based kinetic modeling and the latter was one of attribute reaction modeling (ARM). Finally, the expectation for the petroleomics, which is a new paradigm of petroleum science including the detailed kinetic modeling as one of the elements, would be mentioned.
