This paper aims to clarify how pre-reading activities of topic prediction with eight different intelligences are effective in improving reading speed, understanding and motivation. In theory, Gardner's topic-based instruction in his multiple intelligences theory should be applied to English reading instruction in order to emphasize individuality and various needs of learners. In practice, we surveyed 60 subjects of two different levels with C-tests, two questionnaires, and self-evaluation sheets. As a result, this study brought about three findings. First, through topic prediction activities with multiple intelligences, both learners' reading speed and understanding were improved to some extent. Second, with topic prediction activities, learners' motivation and satisfaction towards the reading class were heightened. Third, depending on the proficiency levels of the students, several differences were observed in the field of reading speed, understanding, and unfamiliar words.
