• In present day Japan, child rearing is relatively isolated activity, as a result child-rearing difficulties such as maternal anxiety and child abuse have become serious problems. It is necessary to share the responsibility of child-rearing in the whole society and to advance cooperation in child-rearing to solve these problems. In this paper, it is pointed out that creating a situation in which a child grows up not only with its own parents, but also with support from other sources is useful for advancing cooperation in child-rearing and that day nursery can function to help create this situation.
