Electromechanical properties of natural rubber (STR 5L)/alumina (Al_2O_3) composites with dicumyl peroxide (DCP) as crosslink agent (no carboxylic group) were investigated in tensile testing mode and impedance analyzer under AC electrical field of 2A. SEM micrographs indicate the interaction OC microstructure and alumina particles are moderately dispersed in the matrix. The XRD patterns indicate Al_2O_3 is of the 6-phase polytypes which possess high ionic conductivity. The electrical conductivity of the composites with DCP increases by nearly two and three orders of magnitudes, compare to STR 5L/Al_2O_3 composites without DCP and pure natural rubber (STR 5L), respectively, with variations in frequency electrical field from 500 Hz to 1 MHz. The increase in the electrical conductivity is caused the strong C-C bond, the ionic polarization of the alumina particles and the induced dipole moments set up in the natural rubber matrix.
