We investigated the relationship between the fractal dimension of cortex surface of the brain and the score on the HDS-R (Revised version of Hasegawa 's dementia scale) in Senile dementia of Alzheimer type last year. We could not find any significant difference between them, unfortunately, in that previous study. That study had some limitations, such as the small number of subjects (nine patients). The procedure to calculate fractal dimension (FD) may also have been inadequate. Only one transverse slice of the brain CT images was used in the calculation. Therefore, the FD might have had many errors. In the present study we improved these defects. Eighteen outpatients with senile dementia of Alzheimer type (AD) were enrolled in this study. We used more CT cross sections to calculate the FD. As a result, we could find some negative correlation between the FD of the Brain CT Images and the Score on the MMSE in Senile Dementia of Alzheimer Type. However, this result differed from what we had expected. We explain the outline of the procedure used in this study. Finally, we discuss our obtained result.
