This essay discusses the significance of giving learners lessons in self-expression in courses designed for international students in the intensive preparatory Japanese course of our institution, as well as evaluating curriculum design. This essay also aims to analyze the relationship between teachers and students founded in the interactive contexts-ba"- of the sessions of these lessons. The result of the analysis of the portfolio data of the students reveals that the practice of self-expression can greatly contribute to development of the student's ability of communication and self-management. It also shows that students broadened and enriched their inner world through self-expression and understanding of others which were mutually shared in the course of cooperative learning of the language they needed for the expressions required by the self-reflection of each participant. It is also clearly recognized that the teachers and the students interacted with each other very positively in each session in the search of their aims and built up supportive human relationship among themselves which consequently changed the whole program into a site of production of creative intelligence."
