In this paper, an approach based on Newton's iteration method is put forward to deal with the nonlinear ship wavemaking problem. In order to consider the change of free surface during iteration process, a kind of single model for a ship hull and an upper source plane above the still water surface are used so as to ensure that those panels only under the water surface can be taken into account during the iteration process. By this way, the change of wetted surface and nolinearity of the flow can be considered thoroughly. Numerical calculations have shown that the present method can get closer results to the experimental ones and avoid the negative wavemaking resistance of Series 60 (C_b=0.6) and Wigley model (C_b=0.444) at lower Froude number below 0.2 for most cases.
