Development of a Simple Dynamical Model to Simulate Collapse Behaviour of Plates with Welding Residual Stresses under Inplane Load

A simple dynamical model is developed to simulate the buckling/plastic collapse behaviour of a rectangular plate with welding residual stresses subjected to inplane compressive/tensile loads. In this model, analytical solutions of the elastic large deflection analysis and the rigid plastic mechanism analysis are used together with appropriate curve fittings. The influences of initial deflection and welding residual stresses on the buckling/plastic collapse behaviour are automatically considered when this model is applied. The accuracy of the proposed model is demonstrated comparing the calculated results with those obtained by the Finite Element Method. The applicability of this model is examined inplementing the model into a beam-column element as one of the fibres consisting a cross-section, and analysing the stiffened plate under thrust using such beam-column elements.
