In counting hookworm eggs by Stoll's egg-counting method, it sometimes happens that the eggs fail to be present in the unit capacity of 0.15cc of suspension of the feces in spite of the fact a test tube from which a sample has been obtained contains them. By using four large test tubes containing 213, 483, 692 and 951 eggs, studies were performed to determine how large is the probability of eggs not being present in the unit capacity and now many times the tubes have to be examined before any eggs could be detected. The results are summarized as follows : (1) The probability of eggs not being found in the unit capacity of 0.15cc of suspension of the feces of each test tube is showd in the following table: [table] (2) One would only have to examine these test tubes 5 times, 2 times, 2 times and 1 time before one could establish the positivity of these tubes with probability 95 %.
