Colorimetric method for estimation of magnesium in 0.1 ml. serum is described. In this method previous deproteinization is necessary but removal of calcium as oxalate is unnecessary. 1 ml. of N/30 sulfuric acid, 0.1 ml. of serum and 1 ml. of 0.5 % sodium tungstate are 'mixed. 1 ml. of clear supernatant and 1 ml. of saturated tropaolin OO dye water solution are mixed in a .centrifuge tube and after two hours this tube is centrifuged for about 10 minutes at 3000 r.p.m. Supernatant liquid is carefully poured. off. Precipitate is stirred up with glass rod and washed with 5 ml. of aceton-ether mixture (1 :1). This washing is repeated once more and magnesium precipitate is dissolved with 1 ml. of concentrated sulfuric acid. The centrifuge tube is filled to the mark of 10 ml. with water. Color is measured photometrically with S_<53> filter and 5 mm. cuvette. Calculation is as follows: Mg mg % = E×4.86
