Nowadays sport-related phenomena can only exist in connection with the mass media that transports the images and information of sport to the people. Among them television undoubtedly occupies the most important position. But, for this essay the object of discourse is limited to sports photography, which is enormously consumed everyday in newspapers and magazines. This limitation is not a negative one. For it would be possible to say that sport photography shows what people want to see in sport more directly. Pictures of photography don't move, but stand still in two dimensions. It means that they can show the decisive moments that people want to see. Furthermore it is a fact that sport photography has certain common types of photographs that can be classified according to their themes. By using guide books of sport photography in which the technique and photographing way of sport pictures are explained, these types can be easily recognized. For all of them consist chiefly of the description of scenes woth being taken in each type of sports. These common types of photography are dictated by the structure of the sport. It can be said that the peculiarities of sports photography are almost logically deduced from the structure of sport itself. For instance, peak actions, conflicts, emotions of athlethes and also audience that are all contained in sport as its essential elements are chief themes of sport photography. Therefore sports photography cannot allow the imagination its full play in comparison with other types of photography. The framework of sparking imagination and of interpreting pictures has been already presupposed in the structure of sport itself and by approaching attitude of photography for sport. Nowadays the artificial aspects of sport are being fortified. If sport continues to display and strengthen this tendency, sports photography and sport itself will fall into crisis.
