This paper proposes an interference canceler for bi-directional satellite communication systems with superposed forward and reverse link signals. In order to measure the round-trip delay between earth and satellite stations, the proposed canceler makes efficient use of extended matched filter (EMF). In acquisition phase, EMF calculates the sliding cross-correlation between replica and received signals and measures the round-trip delay by detecting its peak without known pilot sequences. In the tracking phase, more accurate round-trip delay measurement is carried out by use of delay-locked loop. Computer simulation result shows that the proposed interference canceler is capable of reducing the unwanted interference signal more than 30dB. The total bit error rate performance degradation for superposed transmission is 1.5dB against the ideal performance without interference.
