Through the examination of Buber's writings, the following points are to be made clear in terms of Buber's philosophical anthoropology. 1. Characteristics Buber's philosophical anthropology is based on his theological conception which originated from Hasidism. Buber thought that a man must realize the real "meeting" with "Thou" in order to perform his obligation given by God. And thus, his philosophical anthropology has not the theoretical system constituted by the regulated methodology. His main concern was not forming the system of his philosophical anthropology. 2. Its signifidance to modern philosophy But Buber made the foundation of methodology of modern philosophical anthropology. We can find the clues of the methodology of philosophical anthropology in his phenomenological approach. At the same time, his philosophical anthropology showed us the importance of the wholeness and unification of human personality. Buber approves neither individualism nor collectivism, and he proposed that a man should form his personality through the "meeting" with "Thou".
