青年期における進路の選択 : 医学部進学者の場合

The purpose of this study was to investigate the Japanese adolescents decision making process of going to college and entering a particular college relating their perspectives on their life courses. The author has been conducting this research for several years and has already collected and analyzed data mainly on female students. We found that there are 2 factors in motivation to going to college: the positive motivation and the negative motivation. Also, there are 3 factors in deciding to enter a particular college: good reputation of the college, recommendation from others, good qualities of facilities and other educational environment. The present study was based on the same research paradigm, aiming to investigate whether premedical students choose the college as same way as other students who are majoring human and social sciences. We conducted 2 kinds of questionnaire; one is the identical as we conducted to other students, the other was more detailed question about their process of decision making. The results showed that it is possible to explain the pre-med. students motivation to go to college by 2 major factors we have already found. However, we could not find any clear factors on the reason to choose the particular college. The main reasons we found were that because the school was medical school, and because they did not have any other choices. The detailed questionnaire provided other information such as; 1. female students showed high scores on egalitarian sex-role scale. 2. both male and female students showed high scores on efficacy scale. 3. many of the students started thinking about going to medical school very early. Based on these findings the author is continuing collecting data and analyses.
