We present an algorithm for the visualization of large opaque volume data. So far, volume data has mainly been visualized on the GPU using conventional ray-casting or texture-based techniques. However, since the appearance of CUDA, even more complex visualization techniques become possible. We show that large run-length-encoded volume data can efficiently be visualized using CUDA. In our experiments using a NVIDIA 8600 GTS graphics board, even as much as 40.000x1024x40.000 voxel were visualized in real-time at interactive 40fps.
