Research and development of an integrated coal gasifiction combined cycle power generation (IGCC) system is being carried out chiefly in Europe, the United States, and Japan. In Japan, experimental research using a 200 tons/day pilot plant was launched in 1986 by the national government and electric companies. The authors successfully developed 1300℃ class gas turbine combustors for IGCC plant. Under an actual operation pressure of 1.4MPa the performance of the newly developed gas turbine combustors was found to be excellent. Moreover, their combustion efficiency was nearly 100%, their NO_x emissions below 60ppm (corrected at 16% O_2). The latter signifies a drop of more than 50% from the level of NO_x emissions recorded prior to the development of our new gas turbine combustor. This paper describes in detail the development and performance of gas turbine combustors using coal gaseous fuel.
