This paper describes a new approach for precisely and stably detecting changes in image scaling factors. DFT amplitudes for reference and input images are first transformed to a polar expression. In the transformation, the cause of detection errors is analyzed and optimal frequency filtering for reducing errors is found. Then, the shift between polar spectra for reference and test images is detected by our PSA method to estimate the scaling change. Experimental results for some typical synthetic images clearly show that the scaling factor can be stably detected with a much higher accuracy than that it can by the conventional method. Accuracy dependences on the image pattern structure and the scaling factor are also made clear.
