This paper proposes a new approach for detecting rotation center positions of rotated images with a high accuracy. The equation for calculating rotation center coordinates is derived theoretically. As the equation comprises the rotation angle value of the input image, the accurate rotation angle needs to be known with a high accuracy in advance. Therefore, prior to the image rotation detection, the rotation center position dependence of the rotation detection accuracy is estimated experimentally. Then, the rotation center detection is executed using the newly proposed approach for the synthetically generated lattice pattern image. Experiments show that the average and the standard deviation of absolute detection errors are within 1.87and 0.99 pixels, respectively, for rotation angles from 0.3 to 4.0 degrees, indicating that the rotation center can be detected within as a high accuracy as 1〜2 pixels.
