This study investigated the relationship between temperature elevation and spatial-average SAR (specific absorption rate) in a head model of Japanese male developed at Nagoya Institute of Technology for exposure to microwave emitted from a dipole antenna. The frequencies considered are in the range between 800MHz and 3GHz, which cover the frequency region used in wireless communications. Our attention focuses on the average mass of SAR which maximizes the correlation with local temperature elevation. Computational results suggested that an appropriate average mass of SAR did not exist over above frequency regions, which was attributed to the penetration depth of electromagnetic waves. For most cases considered in this study the SAR averaged over 10g was better than that for 1g from the aspect of correlating the temperature elevation. The effect of blood flow on this correlation was shown to be significant. Additionally, the heat evolved in the pinna played an important role on the correlation between spatial-average SAR and temperature elevation.
