The importance of school services at Christian schools in Japan is that the services make the schools in communion with Church universal, and this is the meaning of non-Christian students' participation in Christian services. On the other hand, most of the students of these Christian schools are non-Christians who belong to the younger generation, and they have different cultural characteristics from ordinary churchgoers. Therefore, we need to find a new style of worship for the services in Christian schools in Japan, accommodating these two ambivalent requirements. The Church of England introduced "A Service of the Word" to satisfy practical needs of its mission works. One of these is the search for the ministry in Urban Priority Areas, and the other is the need for a new liturgy for all-age worship. These situations in the Church of England have many similarities with the school services of the Christian schools in Japan. There is a need for a new liturgy which is based on both local cultures and styles, and that is more concrete and tangible. Based on this philosophy, we designed a new style of liturgy making use of "A Service of the Word" as its structure, and we are now in the process of trial and evaluation.
