Taken a general view of the Ifugao culture and society today, it is noticed as acculturation happened to them for the reason that some major or minor agricultural rites were abandoned by the locals. Symbolic significances in both rites were already sunken into oblivion, especially ritual 'death' and 'rebirth' of rice 'soul' staff, lennawa di page. The former rite used to be termed bakle, ritual event as symbolic 'death' of the lennawa and starting point for rice cultivation in a year. The latter is termed tungoh as 'rebitrth' of it coming into bearing rice grain before rice harvesting. Furthermore, there was another tungoh after harvesting as well. In this article, hidden meanings about these rites would be described and analyzed, though acquired research data are relatively limited. In April, some municipalities in Ifugao Province respectively celebrate 'fiestas,' which are so different from those of Catholic lowlands. They let the people join to the event, procession in Ifugao traditional costumes and ritual recitations as attraction, and perform some ritual games and sports, for example, dopap wrestling or tag-of war and so forth. These games and sports are derived from those in old tungoh ritual. However, these ritual plays are revitalized into modernized competitions in order to express their cultural prides and village identities, consequently utilized as local tourism development at the same time. Besides contextual significance of these ritual sports, this developing process to 'fiesta' with political dilemma in some Ifugao municipalities will be described in details.
