We conducted a survey of 260 male and female participants in the "health promotion exercise" workshop using the Diagnostic Inventory of Health and Life Habits (DIHAL. 2). The workshop consisted of three one-week-long intensive sessions during a three-month period, and the subjects were surveyed twice, before and after the workshop. The collected data were analyzed from various perspectives with the following results : 1. The health level and lifestyle habits varied depending on participants' characteristics such as gender, age, status of health, athletic club membership, sports experience, exercise level, and type of job. Females, older people, and those who rated their own health higher had better lifestyle habits compared respectively with males, younger people, and those with lower self-rating for health. Physically active people (such as athletic club members, those with greater sports experience, those who exercise on a regular basis, those engaged in sports-related jobs) had greater degrees of exercise awareness, sport and exercise behavior and environment, social health, sleep adequacy, and stress avoidance behavior. Those who were engaged in nutrition-related or public-health-related jobs showed better lifestyle habits in terms of regularity of meals, balanced diet, and regularity of sleep. 2. The changes in the health and lifestyle habits before and after the workshop participation varied depending on participants' characteristics such as gender, age, status of health, athletic club membership, greater sports experience, exercise level, and type of job. Some decline in mental health, social health, sport and exercise behavior and environment, and adequacy of sleep was noted in females, younger people, those who rated their own health higher, and those with more experience of exercise and sports (such as athletic club members, those having greater sports experience, those who exercise continuously, and those engaged in sports-related jobs), compared with their counterparts in terms of the characteristics. On the other hand, awareness of exercise and regularity of daily life improved among females. 3. Unfavorable changes in participants' health and lifestyle habits after the workshop indicate that workshop needs more consideration.
