Following the recent changes of modern-day society, the roles and functions of libraries and librarians are being changed. This paper deals how libraries are being changed according to the aging population, focusing on the description of libraries offering medical information. Since around 2000, libraries which offer strategically medical information have increased, as a new branch or a small library attached to medical institutions, or as an extended section in a public library. Three such institutions are taken up as case studies to investigate how these types of libraries are run. The word "library" is no longer used, but has been replaced by the word "information". As running fundamental policies expressed as "study room" or "space for relaxation" show, library collections are made up not only of printed documents, but also of widely digital and other types of resources which are not lend out, but are used at the place, and only their contents needed are sent to the home of the users through the Internet or, if necessary, are taken out as copies. Reference service is emphasized but judgment or evaluation on medical treatment and decision making must not be included in the roles of the librarians, therefore for that purpose medical staffs work with the librarians in some libraries. The training of librarians or media specialists should reflect these recent trends of and needs for libraries or information centres, and should include the training for resources of newly appeared needs such as medical resources. A case of such curriculum modernization in Otsuma University is shown as an example to these trends.
