The chitosan-treated and chitosan-untreated tussah silk fabrics with mordanting after dyeing by a one bath method in the presence of acid showed good depth of shade without any relation to the species of metallic salts mordants. Especially, the fabrics with Cu-mordanting and Fe-mordanting show significantly better depth of shade. The properties on the fabrics with mordanting simultaneously with dyeing have similar tendency to those with mordanting after dyeing, but were inferior to those with mordanting after dyeing. By the chitosan-treatment, the depth of shades on the fabrics with mordanting after dyeing and the ones with mordanting simultaneously with dyeing were made better. Moreover, in the case of the fabrics without mordanting but with dyeing, by chitosan-treatment, the property was made significantly improved. The fabrics with mordanting after dyeing or simultaneously with dyeing showed significantly high color fastness to rubbing and washing. The fabrics with Al-, Sn-and Fe-mordanting after dyeing or simultaneously with dyeing showed significantly high color fastness to perspiration. Moreover, the fabrics with Cu- and Fe-mordanting after dyeing or simultaneously dyeing showed good color fastness to daylight. However, the fabrics with dyeing in the presence of acid were apt to show slightly low property for the color change in the experiments on the color fastness to washing. The fabrics with Cu-mordanting and dyeing in the absence of acid were apt to show slightly low property of color change in the experiments on the color fastness to perspiration. By chitosan-treatment, the properties on the fabrics with Cu-mordanting and dyeing in the presence of acid were made slightly worse and the properties on others were little changed.
