The dyeing properties of the tussah silk fabric treated with chitosan (chitosan-treated fabric) were investigated. The dyeing affinity (K/S value) of the chitosan-treated fabrics with the Lanaset dyes was higher than that of the untreated ones (increase of 1.9 to 26.5%). The hue of the dyed fabric was hardly changed by treatment with chitosan. The color fastness to dry rubbing of the chitosan-treated fabrics was slightly lower than that of the untreated ones and the fastness to wet rubbing of them was lowered. However their fastness was remarkably improved by soaping (grade 4-5 to 5). The fastness to washing, daylight, dry cleaning and hot pressing was quite good.
