The accumulation of moniliphenone (3), a benzophenone biosv nthetic intermediate of an antibiotic chloromonilicin (1), by M.fmcticola was enhanced 15-16 times with the presence of bromine ions in the medium. Two anthraquinone pigments, chrysophanol (4) and emodin (5), also isolated from the mycelia, were proved to be precursors of 3 by incorporation experiments of the deuterium derivatives of these pigments into 3.
