Aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes are allylated with trialkoxysubstituted allylsilane to give the corresponding homoallyl alcohols regiospecifically in the presence of pyrocatechol and triethylamine without solvent at 60℃ or in tetrahydrofuran at reflux. The allylation reaction takes place even in a protic solvent such as methanol and ethanol.
