Feed Circuit for Quasi TEM Wave Excitation in Oversized Dielectric-Coated Rectangular Waveguide

A novel structure is proposed as a feed for oversized rectangular waveguide with inner dielectric coating. Dielectric coating on the narrow walls acts as quasi hard-surface in the oversized waveguide improving the uniformity of the inner field distribution. The feed is a completely dielectric filled wavedguide with cascaded coupling windows on the narrow wall. Proposed feed is compact in terms of length compared to hard horns and inhomogeneous transformers. Simulations in 61.25 GHz band show the excitation of the quasi TEM wave in oversized dielectric coated rectangular waveguide. The ripple in uniformity is less than 1dB in 10λ_o wide oversized dielectric coated waveguide. The proposed structure is attractive for use in oversized rectangular slot array antennas becasue of the promising bandwidth enhancement and lower losses.
