The 1,2-Bis(2-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentenes that reversibly change color from colorless to yellow by UV irradiation were synthesized. Methyl and bromo substituents at 5-positions of the thiophene rings were effective to shift the absorption bands of the open-ring forms to longer wavelengths. Methyl-substitution at 4-positions shifted the absorption bands of the closed-ring forms to longer wavelength.
